A concave mirror and a convex lens are held separetly in water. What changes, if any, do you except in the focal length of either?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Focal length of concave lens is independent of the medium. So focal length of concave mirror remains same when it is held inside water.
Focal length of convexlens depends upon the medium and hence changes with the change in medium.
Because refractive index of glass (material of the lens) w.r.t water is less than that w.r.t. air. So actually focal length of convex lens increases when it is held inside water.
