A ray of light of frequency of `5 xx 10^(14)Hz` is passed through a liquid.the wavelength of light measured inside the liquid is found to be `450 xx 10^(-9) m`.Calculate refractive index of the liquid.

Frequency `=n=6xx10^(14)` Hz
Wavelength of light in given liquid `=lamda_(1)=450xx10^(-9)m`
We know `lamda_("air")=c/n=(3xx10^(8))/(5xx10^(14))=0.6xx10^(-6)m`
Refractive index `=mu=(lamda_("air"))/(lamda_(1))`
`mu=(0.6xx10^(-6))/(450xx10^(-9))`
`=1/750xx10^(3)=1000/750`
`mu=1.33`
So refractive index of given liquid =1.33
