Difference between nuclear fusion and nuclear fission:
Nuclear fusion
1. Two or more lighter nuclei fuse together to form a heavy nucleus.
2. It takes place at a very high temperature = `10^(7)` K.
3. This reaction cannot be controlled.
4. Energy released per unit mass is very high.
5. It is used to produce hydrogen bomb.
6. Fuel to be used is quite cheap and available is plenty.
Nuclear fission
1. A heavy nucleus breaks up into two nuclei of nearly equal masses.
2. It takes place at ordinary temperature.
3. This reaction can be controlled.
4. Energy released per unit mass is very low.
5. It is used to produce electricity and atom bomb (nuclear bomb).
6. Fuel to be used is very costly and available in limited quantity.
