Why does the thickness of depletion layer of pn-junction increases in reverse biasing ? Draw the circuit diagram of reverse biasing.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

A small potential difference is set up across the depletion layer during the formation of Pn-Junction. When Pn-Junction diode is reverse biosed, the polarity of applied d.c., source aids the fictions battery. As a result, potential difference across the junction increases and diffusion of electrons and holes decreases and hence thickness of depletion layer increases.
