Out of NaCl and BaCl(2) aqueous solution...

Out of NaCl and `BaCl_(2)` aqueous solutions, which shows more relative lowering of vapour pressure and why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For NaCl
`NaCl (aq) to Na^(+) (aq) + Cl^(-) (aq) , i = 2 `
`BaCl_(2) (aq) to Ba^(2) (aq) + 2 Cl^(-1) (aq) , i = 3 `
Now ` (Delta p)/( p^(0)) = i (n_(B))/( n_(A))`
For same concentration i.e. and `n_(B) and n_(A)` ,more i, means more relative lowering of vapour pressure . Thus `BaCl_(2)` (aq) solution will show more relative lowering of vapour pressure .
