A solution of glucose in water is labelled as 10 percent w/w . What would be the molality and mole fraction of each component in the solution? If the density of the solution is 1.2g `mL^-1` , then what shall be the molarity of the solution?

The correct Answer is:
`x_("glucose") = 0.011;x_("Water") =0.99`

Let Mass of solution = 100 g
`:.` Mass of glucose , `C_(6) H_(12) O_(6)` = 10 g
Mass of water = 100 - 10 = 90 g
`n_("glucose") = (10 g)/( 180 g mol^(-1)) = (1)/(18) mol = 0 . 0 56`
`n_("water") = (90 g)/( 18 g mol^(-1)) = 5` mol
`x_("glucose") = (n_("glucose"))/( n_("glucose") + n_("water"))`
`= (0 . 056)/( 0 . 0 56 + 5) = (0 . 0 56)/( 5 . 056) `= 0 . 0 11
`x_("water") = 1 - x_("glucose") = 1 - 0 .011 = 0 . 989`
