`NCl_3 is readily hydrolysed while `NF_3` does not. Explain.

It is mainly due to the following two reasons.
(a) The N-F bond is much stronger than N-Cl bond. Infact out of all the trihalides of nitrogen only `NF_3` is stable.
Vacant d-orbital in absent is `NF_3` due to which water molecules cannot be accomodated for hydrolysis.
