`NH_3` is a strong base but `NF_3` does not show any basic property. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`NH_3` is a Lewis base. Its basic character is due to the availability of lone pair of electron on N-atom.In `NF_3` the presence of three highly electronegative F-atoms reduces the availability of lone pair of electrons on N-atoms. As such `NF_3` does not show any basic property.
