`SO_2` act as both oxidising and reducing agent but `H_2S` acts as only reducing agent. Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In `H_2 S` the O.S. of S in -2, i.e., the lowest O.S., therefore, it can only increase its O.S. by losing electrons. As such it acts only as a reducing agent.
