The chlorofluorocarbon compounds of methane and ethane are collectively known as freons. They are extramely stable, unreactive, non-toxis, non-corrosive and easily liquefiable gas, Freons are used for aerosol propellants, refrigeration, and air conditioning purposes. Freons cause ozone depletion.
