In GIFT, gametes are transferred to the fallopian tube. Can gametes be transferred to the uterus to achieve the same result. Explain.

Gamete can not be directly transferred to the uterus as its environment is not condusively for its survival. If it is transferred directly to uterus, then gamete will undergo degeneration or phagocytosed, so viable embryo will not be formed.
