Biological diversity includes three hierarchical levels :
(i) Genetic diversity. It refers to the variation of genes within species. The genetic variation by medicinal plant Ranwolfia growing in different Himalayan ranges in term of the potency and concentration varies for its distributional ranges.
(ii) Species diversity. it is the diversity that refers to the variety of species within a region for example, the Western Ghats have a greater amphibian diversity that the Eastern Ghats.
(iii) Community and ecosystem diversity. It is the diversity at the level of community and ecosystem. it has three perspectives Alpha diversity and gamma diversity.
