The reactivity order of haloalkanes is R...

The reactivity order of haloalkanes is `R-I gt R-Br gt R-Cl gt R-F.` Explain.

Text Solution

Due to electronegativity difference the reactivity order of haloalkane is as follows:
` R -F gt R -Cl gt R - Br gt R -I`
But actual order of reactivity of haloalkane is given as follows:
`R-I gt R - Br gt R - Cl gt R -F `
It is because of lesser bond dissociation energy of R-I. Therefore, R-l.bond can be easily cleaved. Whereas R-F bond is the strongest bond. This bond requires more energy for cleavage. Hence, this explains the reactivity order of haloalkanes.
