(i) With halogen acid : Ethers are readily cleaved by HX at 373 K to form an alcohol. e.g.
`underset(Ether)(R-O)-R+HXoverset(373k)rarrunderset("Alcohol")(ROH)+underset("Alkyl halide")(R-X)`
(ii) With sulphuric acid : On heating with dil, `H_(2)SO_(4)` g, ethers are hydrolysed to alcohols.
`underset(Ether)(R-O-R)+H_(2)Ooverset(dil._(H_(2)SO_(4),Delta))underset("under pressure")rarrunderset(Alcohol)(2R-OH)`
