1.8 g of Mg is burnt in a closed vessel which contains 0.8 gofoxygen. Which of the following facts are correct for the resultant system?

The correct Answer is:
A, C, D

The burning reaction is `2 Mg + O _(2) to 2 Mg O `
Initial amount of `Mg = ( 1. 8 g // 24 g mol ^(-1)) = 0 .075` mol
Initial amount of `O _(2) = (0.8 g //32 g mol ^(-1)) = 0. 025` mol
In the combustion reaction, whole of `O _(2)` will be used
Amount of MgO formed `= 2 xx 0.025 ` mol `= 0. 0 50` mol
Amount of `O _(2)` left = 0
Mass of Mg left `= [ ( 0. 0 75 - 0. 0 50) ]mol [ 24 g mol ^(-1) ]`
From the reaction, `MgO + H _(2) SO _(4) to Mg SO _(4) + H _(2)O,` we write
`V(0.25M) = 0. 05 mol or V = ( 0.05)/(0.25) L =0.2 L or 200 mL`
