The rate law for a reaction is Rate ...

The rate law for a reaction is
Rate = `k[A]^(1//2)[B]^2`
Can the reaction be an elementry reaction. Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Rate law expression is,
Rate=`k[A]^(1//2)[B]^(2)`
`therefore` Order = `1/2+2=2(1)/(2)`
For an elementry reaction,
Molecularity = Order
`therefore` Molecularity =`2(1)/(2)`
This is not possible becuase molecularity of a reaction cannot be a fraction. Hence the reaction cannot be an elementry reaction.
