Most aromatic acids are solids while acetic acid and others of their series are liquids. Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

This is because aromatic acids have higher melting points than those of aliphatic acids of comparable moelcular mases. This is probabily due to the fact that benzene has plan or ring which can pack closely in the crystal lattice than zig-zag structure of aliphatic acids.
