A voltemeter reads up to 3 V. It resistance is 200 ohm. It is to be used to measure a potential difference, which may be as large as 60 V. What measures you would take to protect the voltmeter?

V = 3 volt
Resistance of voltmeter ` = R_(v) = 200 Omega`
`I_(G) = (V)/(R) = (3)/(200)`
`I_(G) = 1*5 xx 10^(-2)A`
Let R is the resistance which is connected in series with the voltmeter to increase its range from 3 V to 60V.
`R = (V)/(I_(G)) -R_(1)`,
` = (60)/(1*5 xx 10^(-2)) - 200`
`= (6000)/(1*5) -200`
`R = 4000-200`
`R = 3800 Omega`

Two resistances of 400 ohm and 800 ohm are connected in series with 6 volt battery of negligible internal resistance. A voltmeter of resistance 10,000ohm is used to measure the potential difference across 400 ohm. The error in the measurement of potential difference in volt approximately .

A voltemeter of resitance 400 Omega connected for measurement to a section of a ciruit having a resistance of 20 ohm shows a reading of 100 V. What is the error in the reading of the voltmeter, if the current in the main circit is assumed to remain constant before and after connecting the voltmeter?

A battery of e.m.f 12 V supplies a current through a oil of resistance 48 ohm. The internal resistance of the battery is 1.2 ohms. A voltmeter of resistance 72 oohm is sued to measure the potential difference across the coil. What value would it show?

A resistance R is connected across a cell of emf epsilon and internal resistance r. A potentiometer now measures the potential difference between the terminals of the cell as V. Write the expression for 'r' in terms of epsilon , V and R.

There is a potentiometer wire of length 1200 cm and 60 mA current is flowing in it. A battery of emf 5V and internal resistance of 20 ohm is balanced on potentiometer wire with balancing length 1000 cm. if a voltmeter is connected across the cell, the balancing length decreasing by 20 cm find reading of the voltmeter

A potentiometer wire carries current. The potential difference across 70 cm of its balances the potential difference across a 2 ohm coil supllied by a cell of e.m.f. 2 volt. When a 1 ohm coil is placed in parallel with the 2 ohm coil, a length equal to 50 cm of the potentiometer wire is required to balance the potential difference across the parallel combination. What is the internal resistance of the 2 V cell?
