Explain the phenomenon of self induction?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Self-induction : The property of a coil by virtue of which it opposes growth or decay of current fHowing through it is known as self-induction.
It is also known as inertia of electricity as it opposes the growth or decay of current through the coil.
Co-efficient of self induction: E is def+ned as the magnetic flux.linked with the coil when unit curent flows throngh it. `phi = LI`
Magnetic flux- (Co-efficient of self induction) x Electric current
If `I=1` then
`phi = L`
S.I. unit of coefficient of self-induction is Henry (H).
