An ore gives carbon dioxide on treatment...

An ore gives carbon dioxide on treatment with a dilute acid. What steps will you take to convert such a concentrated ore into free metal?

Whenever a metal carbonate reacts with a dilute acid, carbon dioxide is formed. Since this ore gives carbon dioxide on treatment with a dilute acid, so it is a carbonate ore. A carbonate ore can be converted into free metal in two steps:
(i) Calcination : The carbonate ore is strongly heated in the absence of air (calcined) to get the metal oxide.
Metal carbonate `overset("calcination")to` Metal oxide + carbon dioxide carbon to get free metal.
Metal oxde + carbon `overset("Reduction")` Metal + carbon monoxide
