Lightning

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The heat and light released during lightning force nitrogen of the air to combine with oxygen to form oxides of nitrogen. These get dissolved in water to form very dilute nitric acid, which comes down with rain. The acid reacts with salts in the air to form nitrogenous compounds, which are essential for the growth of plants.
Lightning also crable ozone to be formed from oxygen. Ozone present in the atmosphere stops the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun from reaching us.
