`CHF _(3)`

B

`CHl _(3)`

C

`CHCl _(3)`

D

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Due to stronger `-I` effect of F than `Cl, CHF _(3)` should be more acidic than `CHCl_(3).` But actually reverse is true. This is due to `C C l _(3) ^(-)` left after the removal of a proton from `CHCl _(3)` is stabilized by resonance due to presence of d-orbitals in Cl than `:CF _(3) ^(-)` left after the removal of a proton from `CHF_(3)` which is not stabilized by resonance due to the absence of d-orbitals on F.
