Find the magnetic field due to a dipole ...

Find the magnetic field due to a dipole of magnetic moment `1.2 A m^2` at a point `1m` away from it in a direction making an angle of `60^@` with the dipole-axis`.

Text Solution

The magnitude of the field is
`B= (mu_0/(4pi) M/(r^3) sqrt(1+3 cos^2 theta)`
`(10^(-7) (T m)/A) (1.2 A m^2)/(1 m^3) sqrt(1+3 cos^2 60^@)`
`= 1.6 xx 10^(-7) T`.
The direction of the field makes an angle `alpha` with the radial line where. `tanalpha = (tantheta)/2 = (sqrt3)/(2)`
