A thin spherical conducting shell of radius R has a charge q , Another charge Q placed at the centre of the shell . The electrostatic potential at a point P at a distance `R/2` from the centre of the shell is :

A

`(2Q)/(4piepsilon_(0)R)`

B

`(2Q)/(4piepsilon_(0)R)-(2q)/(4piepsilon_(0)R)`

C

`(2Q)/(4piepsilon_(0)R)+q/(4piepsilon_(0)R)`

D

`((q+Q)2)/(4piepsilon_(0)R)`

The correct Answer is:
C

The electrostatic potential on the surface of the spherical shell of radius R having cahrge q is `1/(4piepsilon_(0)) q/R ` , which is same as the potential at P ( or any interior point )
Now if we place charge Q at the centre . The potential at P due to Q is `1/(4piepsilon_(0)) Q/(R//2)`
` :. ` The total potential at `P = 1/(4piepsilon_(0)) . 1/R (q+2Q)`
