Mendel.s Dilybrid Cross with Checkerboard
A dihybrid cross involves two pairs of contrasting characters.
For example, when a cross is made between yellow round and wrinkled green seeds (both pureline homozygous), plants with only yellow round seeds are seen in F-generation but in Fy generation, four types of combinations are observed. Two of these combinations are similar to the parental combinations and others are new combinations. These are round green and wrinkled yellow.
The ratio of four combinations in Fy-generation comes out to be 9 (round, yellow): 3 (round, green):
3 (wrinkled, yellow): 1 (wrinkled, green)
This ratio is called phenotypic dihybrid ratio.
