Frenkel defect : Frenkel defect arises when the smaller ion of ionic solids is dislocated from its normal site to an interstitial site. It is also called dislocation point defect. Frenkel defects are common in ionic solids having low coordination number and large difference in the sizes of positive and negative ions. The density of the substance do not change. eg. ZnS, AgCl, AgBr and Agl.
