Explain why the dipole moment of chlorobenzene is lower than that of cyclohexychloride .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In cyclohexyl chloride, is bonded to an ` sp^(3)` carbon . In chlorobenzene chlorine is bonded to an ` sp^(2)` carbon . `sp^(2)` carbon is More electronegative than ` sp^(2)` carbon. Hence the C- Cl bond in chlorobenzene. Thus, the dipole moment of chlorobenzene is lower than that of cyclohexyl chloride
