Explain the purpose if vulcanization of rubber .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Many properties of natural rubber limit its use. It becomes soft at high temperature (`lt` 335 K) and brittle at low temperatures (`lt` 283.K). It shows water absorption. It is soluble in non-polar solvents and is non-resistant to attack by oxidising agents. The purpose of vulcanization is to improve upon these physical properties.
