The atomic number of carbon is 6 . So, its electron configuration is 2,4.Carbon having four valence electrons forms only covalent compounds which show less intermolecular attractions and do not have any free electrons to transmit electric current .Therefore ,these are poor conductors of electricity .Also ,the forces of attraction in between their molecules are weak.
