A Young's double slit apparatus has slits separated by 0.28 mm and a screen 48 cm away from the slits. The whole apparatus is immersed in water and the slits are illuminated by the red light (`lamda=700` nm in vacuum). Find the fringe-width of the pattern formed on the screen.

Given that: `d=0.28mm`
`=0.28xx10^-3m`
`D=48cm`
`lamda_a=700nm in vacuum`
Let `lamda_w` =wavelength of red light in water
Since,` m=v_a/v_w=lamda_a/lamda_2=4/3`
`rarr (3lamda_a)/4=(3xx700)/4=525mm`
so the fringe width of the pattern is given by
`B=lamda_wD`
`=525xx10^-9xx(0.48))/((0.28)xx10^-3)`
`=9x10^-4=0.90mm`

State two conditions to obtain sustained interference of light. In young's double slit experiment, using light of wavelength 400 nm, interference fringes of width X are obtained. The wavelength of light is increased to 600 nm and the separation between the slits is halved. if one wants the observed fringe width on the screen to be the same in the two cases, find the ratio of the distance between the screen and the plane of the slits in the two arrangements.

In Young's double slit experiment, the distance between slits and the screen is 1.0 m and monochromatic light of 600 nm is being used. A person standing near the slits is looking at the fringe pattern. When the separation between the slits is varied, the interference pattern disappears for a particular d_(0) between the slits

Statement-1: In Young's double slit experiment the two slits are at distance d apart. Interference pattern is observed on a screen at distance D from the slits. At a poit on the screen when it is directly opposite to one of the slits, a dard fringe is observed then the wavelength of wave is proportional of square of distance of two slits. Statement-2: In Young's double slit experiment, for identical slits, the intensity of a dark fringe is zero.

A coherent parallel beam of microwaves of wavelength lambda = 0.5 mm falls on aYoung's double- slit apparatus. The separation between the slits is 1.0 mm. The intensity of microwaves is measured on a screen placed parallel to the plane of the slits at a distance of 1.0 m from it as shown in Fig. 2.42. If the incident beam makes an angle or 30^(@) with the x-axis (as in the dotted arrow shown in the figure), find the y-coordinates of the first minima on either side of the central maximum.
