The given figure shows an electric circuit in which a lamp L is connected. What happens to the brightness of the lamp L when the switch S is closed? (Box represents extra resistance in the circuit.)

A

It becomes dimmer.

B

It becomes brighter.

C

It goes off.

D

It remains the same

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

When switch is open, the resistance box decreases the amount of current flowing in the circuit. Hence the brightness of the bulb is low. But when switch is closed, the current is provided by the another path to flow with negligible resistance. So current increases in the circuit. Hence brightness of the bulb will increase.
