When the split stalk of white carnation flower is placed in two different coloured solutions, then half petals of flower would show red colour and half would show blue, because stem conducts water and minerals to leaves and food prepared by the leaves to other parts of plant through special conducting structures. So, stem part soaked in red solution would impart red colour to petals and stem part soaked in blue solution would impart blue colour.
