Assertion : Two similar trains are mov...

Assertion : Two similar trains are moving along the equatorial line with the same speed but in opposite direction. They will exert equal pressure on the rails.
Reason : In uniform circular motion the magnitude of acceleration remains constant but the direction continuously changes.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

If assertion is false but reason is true.

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

Due to earth.s axial rotation, the speed of the trains relative to earth will be different and hence, the centripetal forces on them will be different. Thus their effective weights `mg - (mv^(2))/r` and `mg + (mv^(2))/r` will be different. So they exert different pressure on the rails.
