Assertion : A gas can be liquified at any temperature by increase of pressure alone.
Reason : On increasing pressure the temperature of gas decreases

A

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

If the assertion and reason both are false.

The correct Answer is:
D

A vapour above the critical temperature is a gas and gas below the critical temperature for the substance is a vapour. As gas cannot be liquefied by the application of pressure alone, how so ever large the pressure may be while vapour can be liquefied under pressure alone. To liquefy a gas it must be cooled upto or below its critical temperature.
