Let ` x + (1)/(x) = t`
Then given equation is
`(t^(3) - 3t) + (t^(2) - 2) - 6® - 7 = 1`
or ` t^(2) + t^(2) - 9t = 0 `
`therefore (t + 1) (t^(2) - 9) = 0`
`therefore t = 1, 3, - 3`
If ` x + (1)/(x) = - 1`, then `x^(2) + x + 1 = 0` . This equation has no real
roots.
If ` x + (1)/(x) = - 3` , then ` x^(2) + 3x + 1 = 0 `. Roots are ` (-3pm sqrt(5))/(2)`
` If x + (1)/(x) = 3 `, then ` x^(2) - 3x + 1 = 0 ` . Roots are ` (3pm sqrt(5))/(2)`
