Calculate the number of atoms in a cubic...

Calculate the number of atoms in a cubic based unit cell having one atome on each corner and two atoms on each body diagonal.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
AB, structure is same as that of NaCl

There are four body diagonals. Thus, there are 8 atoms within the body of the unit cell which are not shared by any other unit cell. Contribution by atoms at the corners `= 8 xx 1/8 =1`
Hence, total atoms/ unit cell = *+1=9
