Why the defects of the crystalline solid...

Why the defects of the crystalline solids are called thermodynamic defects?

Text Solution

There is perfect arrangement of the constituent particels only at 0k , As the rtemperature increases (say upto room temperature ) , The chance that a lattice site may be unoccupied by an ion increases. As the number of defects increases with temperature ,the defects are called themodynamic defects.
