Why stoichiometric defects are also called intrinsic defects?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Stoichiometric defects are so called because they do not alter the stoichiometry of the crystal ( Schottky defect and Frenkel defect). They are called intrinsic defects beacause it is due to the deviation from regular arrangement of atoms or ions within the crystal and no external substance is added.
