Why does zinc oxide exhibit enhanced electrical conducity on heating ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

On heating , zinc oxide loses oxygen as : ` ZnO overset(delta)to Zn^(2+) + 1/2 O^(2) + 2e^(-) `
The ` Zn^(2+)` ions thus formed are eptrapped into the interstitional sites while the electrons are also etnrapped in the neighbouring intersitial sites. These entapped electrons enhance the electrical conductivity of ZnO.
