Explain why electrolysis of ordinary water occurs faster than heavy water ?

Due to lower bond dissociation energy of protium bonds in H-O-H than deuterium bonds in D-O-D, electrolysis of `H_(2)O` occurs much faster than that of `D_(2)O`.
