In Solvay process , we cannot obtain directly sodium carbonate by treating the solution containing `(NH_(4))_(2)CO_(3)` with sodium chloride because both `Na_(2)CO_(3)` and `NH_(4)Cl` are highly soluble and the equilibrium will not shift in the forward direction
`(NH_(4))_(2) CO_(3) + 2 NaCl hArr Na_(2)CO_(3) + 2 NH_(4)Cl`
