Two isomeric compounds A and B have some molecualr formula `C_(3)H_(5)N`. It was found that

A

A and B do not react with `NHO_(2)` or `CH_(3)COCl`

B

On refluxing with dil. HCl, A gives C and B gives D. Both C and D are monobase carboxylic acids.

C

Molecular mass of D is 74.

D

C gives positive Tollen's test whereas D does not predict the structures of A,B,C and D.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) `C_(2)H_(5)-overset(oplus)N-=overset(-)C:`
(b) `C_(2)H_(5) - C-=N:`
(c ) HCOOH
(d) `C_(2)H_(5)COOH`
Cyanides and isocyanides do not react with either `HNO_(2)` or `CH_(3)COCl`. Among carboxylic acis by formic acid gives aldehyde tests like Tollen's test.
