In the given circuit a silicon diode with knee voltage 0.7V is forward biased with a battery of e.m.f 8V. The current in the circuit is 40 mA. Find the power drop at resistor R and diode.

Knee voltage `V_("Knee")=0.7V`
Voltage drop across R is =8-0.7 =7.3 V
Current in the circuit I=4.0 mA

Power drop at resistor R=Voltage drop across R x current
`=7.3xx40xx10^(-3)`
`=29.2xx10^(-2)W`
Power drop at diode =voltage drop across diode x current
`=0.7xx40xx10^(-3)`
