Nucleosome is a structural, bead-likeunit of a eukaryotic chromosome composed of a short length of DNA wrapped around a core of histone proteins. It is the fundamental subunit of chromatin. Unlike most proteins, which are made continuoulsy throughout interphase, the histones are synthesised mainly is the S-phase (i.e., the DNA synthesis phase).
