Carotenoid is a group of carotenes and santhophyll pigments. These are soluble in organic solvents like ether. Chloroform , etc. During photostynthesis , these pigments absorb light energy and transfer it to reaction centre. Thus , the carotenoids act as an accesory pigment in photosynthesis.
