Small quantities of compounds TX, TY and...

Small quantities of compounds TX, TY and TZ are put into separate test tubes containing X, Y and Z solutions. TX does not react with any of these. TY reacts with both X and Z. TZ reacts only with X. The decreasing order of ease of oxidation of the anions `X^(-),Y^(-) and Z^(-)` is

A

`Y^(-),Z^(-),X^(-)`

B

`Z^(-),X^(-),Y^(-)`

C

`Y^(-),X^(-),Z^(-)`

D

`X^(-),Z^(-),Y^(-)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

TX does ot ract with any solution. This means that `X^(-)` is least easily oxidized. TY reacts with both X and Z. this means `Y^(-)` is oxidized by both.
`(Y^(-)+XtoY+X^(-),Y^(-)+ZtoY+Z^(-))`
TZ reacts with X only `(Z^(-)+XtoZ+X^(-))`
`Y^(-)`, thus, decreasing order of oxidation of anions `X^(-),Y^(-),Z^(-)` will be : `Y^(-),Z^(-),X^(-)`.
