The paramagnetic character in 3d transit...

The paramagnetic character in `3d` transition series elements increases up to `Mn` and then decreases. Explain why.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

As we move from `. _(21)Sc` to `._(25)Mn`, the number of unpaired electrons increases and hence paramagnetic character increases. After Mn, pairing of electron in the d-subshell starts and the number of unparied electrons decreases and hence paramagnetic character decreases.
