The reagent commonly used to determine hardness of water titrimetrically is `:`

A

oxalic acid

B

disodium salt of EDTA

C

soldim citrate

D

sodium thiosulphate

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

The hardness or water is estimated by simple titration of ethylene diammine tetraacetate (EDIT) solution. EDTA forms stable complexes with metal ions present in the hard water. Since, stability constants or calcium and magnesium complexes of EDTA are different, even the delective estimation of these ions is possible.
