Which one of the following is/are correct statement for physisorption

A

It is a reversible reaction

B

Reaction requires an energy of activation

C

The value of adsorption enthalpy is low

D

It generally occurs at a low temperature

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

When the paticles of the adsorbate are held to the surface of the adsorbent by the physical forces, the adsorption is called physical adsorption or physisorption. It is a reversible process and usually occurs at low temperature. The value of adsorption enthalpy is low in this process. It forms multimolecular layers.
As this type of adsorption involves no chemical reaction, on activation energy is required for the adsorption to occur.
