The product of the perpendiculars drawn ...

The product of the perpendiculars drawn from the point (1,2) to the pair of lines `x^(2)+4xy+y^(2)=0` is

A

`9//4`

B

`3//4`

C

`9//16`

D

`13//4`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

We know that , the product of perpendicualrs drawn from `(x_1y_1)` to the represented by `ax^2+2hxy+hy^2=0` is `|(ax^2+2hx_1y_1+by_(1)^(2))/sqrt((a-b)^2+4h^2)|`
Here , `a=1,2h=4,b=1,x_1=1and y_1=2`
`therefore ` Required product `|(1xx1^2+4xx1xx2+1xx2^2)/sqrt((1-1)^2+4xx2^2)|=(13)/(4)`.
